Transparency and Access
Plymouth County Commission meetings are currently held during the day on weekdays in Plymouth. This schedule limits participation - often entirely prevents it - and leaves many people across the County unaware that meetings are even taking place.
If elected, Rhonda will advocate for a new approach to Commissioner's meetings by holding them on a rotating basis throughout Plymouth County during the event. Rhonda believes we need to bring government to the people, so Commissioners can hear directly from constituents, municipal leaders and businesses about how county government can better serve them.
Lower Prices
Many cities and towns across the Commonwealth are increasingly seeking property tax overrides and debt exclusions simply to meet their core responsibilities and provide basic services to residents and businesses. These requests reflect the reality that municipal budgets are already stretched this. Rhonda believes that the Plymouth County Commission can - and should - play a larger role.
Through collaboration with municipal leaders, bulk purchasing, and regional services, Rhonda believes that Plymouth County government can - and should - work harder to free up funding for our cities and towns. Rhonda will prioritize regional programming and purchasing in areas like water testing, beach monitoring, public health, and emergency planning and response to ease the financial burdens on municipalities who cannot afford to stand up and fund these programs alone.
Targeting State / Federal Money
State and federal grants are one of the best ways to improve government services without having to raise taxes. However, undertaking the task of identifying and applying for grants is time consuming without a dedicated person working on this effort, especially for our smaller communities where municipal employees are already overworked.
Rhonda will utilize her first-hand experience and relationships gained through her work as State Representative, Hanover Select Board Member and former Government Relations Manager for the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department to aggressively identify and pursue state and federal grants to make sure Plymouth County gets every state and federal dollar it is eligible to receive. Rhonda will advocate for creating a dedicated grant writer position within Plymouth County government to provide assistance and support for our 27 cities and towns.
